Class Descriptions,

Levels & Dress Code

  If you are new to PAC, and have prior dance experience, you may schedule an evaluation class to get into the best possible class/classes.

ACRO

Acro, short for acrobatics, is similar to a gymnastics or tumbling class. Our experienced acro instructor will guide the class towards increased flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration. This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic technique, teaching such skills as handstands, chin stands, elbow stands, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, balance and contortion tricks, all each student's individual level of experience. 

DRESS CODE: Fitted Clothing (jazz shorts, leggings, etc.); jazz shoes or jazz half soles; hair in Ponytail or Bun.

BALLET

Ballet classes are offered from a beginner level to advanced. Students are taught proper body placement, body alignment, barre and center floor work, along with across the floor combinations. Beginner classes introduce vocabulary, proper alignment, and classical ballet technique. Advanced classes include adagio and allegro work, and combinations using balance, strength, and style. All students are urged to study ballet, as it is the foundation of all other dance styles and facilitates further success in these disciplines.

DRESS CODE: Ladies/Pink shoes, pink tights, black leotard, hair in a slick bun w/ hair net. Gents/Black shoes, black tights or shorts, white t shirt.

COMBO CLASSES

Combos are recommended for entry level dancers ages 3-6. Each combo class will spend equal amounts of time working on each of the styles in the class title(IE: ballet/tap will spend half the time on ballet, and half on tap). Dancers will learn classroom etiquette, improve coordination and flexibility. Dancers will start focusing on a special dance in January, which will be performed in our June recital. DRESS CODE: ( Combo classes require two sets of shoes  indicated by style; See info under class style for your session)

 

DIFFERENTLY ABLED CLASSES

These classes are specifically for students who have special needs. Taught by a teacher with a background in child development these classes will be a little slower moving and geared towards the most positive experience for your dancer as possible.

GYROKINESIS®

Gyrokinesis is an exercise that allows one to work on the entire body through seven natural elements of spinal movement.  This approach systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through rhythmic and undulating movements. DRESS CODE: comfortable athletic/dance clothing; hair pulled back in pony or off of face; this class can be performed in bare feet

HIP HOP

Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of choreography, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. This class will cover the basics of what we call the foundation of hip hop as well as learning new and exciting dance trends DRESS CODE: Clean tennis shoes (no flip flops please); comfortable pants and top

HIP HOP FUNDAMENTALS

This is a class for all levels and will focus on the building blocks of Hip Hop Technique including Popping, Locking, Breaking, House and more. DRESS CODE: Clean tennis shoes (no flip flops please); comfortable pants and top 

INDUSTRY JAZZ

This class will cover a range of jazz styles, performance techniques, and popular trends in the dance industry. With new choreography each week, this class will also work to improve how quickly you can pick up new routines. DRESS CODE: Fitted Clothing (jazz shorts, leggings, etc.); jazz shoes or jazz half soles; hair in Ponytail or Bun.

JAZZ

Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. DRESS CODE: Fitted Clothing (jazz shorts, leggings, etc.); jazz shoes or jazz half soles; hair in Ponytail or Bun.

JAZZ TECH

This class will be a combination of a normal Jazz class and a Jumps and Turns Class. While dancers will have a strong focus on technique, there is also time allotted for learning jazz combinations.

DRESS CODE: Fitted Clothing (jazz shorts, leggings, etc.); jazz shoes or jazz half soles; hair in Ponytail or Bun.

LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary/Lyrical is a style of dance that uses the emotion and mood of the music to elicit movements from the dancers. Students have a warm up focusing in core strength, flexibility, and movement of the back. The class includes floor work, progressions, and center combinations. DRESS CODE: Fitted Clothing (jazz shorts, leggings, etc.); jazz shoes or jazz half soles; hair in Ponytail or Bun.

MONDAY MADNESS

This is a rotating advanced Hip Hop class happens every Monday from 6-7:30 in Santa Cruz.  Teachers come from all over the state and beyond to teach advanced level choreography in a multitude of styles of hip hop. DRESS CODE: Clean tennis shoes (no flip flops please); comfortable pants and top

PARKOUR

The art of mastering movement, learning to traverse one's environment, and overcome obstacles ( both physical and mental) with efficiency, grace, precision; through run, jump, climb, vault, quadripedal movements, swinging, flipping, etc. This class is an introduction of fundamentals of the sport. Improve confidence, strength, flexibility, balance, refine proprioception. Fun for all ages and levels. Taught by a certified Parkour Generations Level 3 Coach.

DRESS CODE: comfortable athletic/dance clothing; hair pulled back in pony or off of face; tennis shoes with thin, flexible sole preferred

STREET JAZZ

Street Jazz contains a blend of several styles of hip hop, popular street dance styles, and jazz. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to their movements. DRESS CODE: Fitted Clothing (jazz shorts, leggings, etc.); jazz shoes or jazz half soles; hair in Ponytail or Bun.

TAP

Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun. DRESS CODE: Tap shoes, leggings or sweats and a comfortable top
